Motronic ME 7.8 system with electronic throttle
In designing his first pure race car in the early 1950s, Ferry Porsche forged an open two-seat racer's body from lightweight aluminum and placed the engine midship for optimal weight distribution. The 550 Spyder proved to be both nimble and fast, enabling drivers to carry far more speed through turns than those with cars boasting higher horsepower, but which were not as efficiently designed and engineered. Fast-forward to the Boxster, a modern roadster that takes the Spyder's celebrated styling cues and fuses them to the Boxster's equally celebrated flat-six engine. With timing aided by VarioCam Plus and engine enhancements grafted from the Cayman and 911, a tap on the throttle is rewarded by 245 horsepower and peak torque from 4600 to 6000 rpm. Even more impressive than the Boxster's power ratings are the new engine's improved responsiveness and seemingly endless reserves of power. A modified resonance induction system delivers greater intake pressure for crisp off-the-line acceleration and generous amounts of torque over a broad rpm range. Push the car's race-bred chassis and finely tuned suspension and you'll instantly feel the benefits of the Boxster's superbly balanced mid-engine layout: a seamless combination of razor-sharp agility and reassuring control.
